Enlightenment  journal

Melvin races down the stairs it’s just about 9:15am

Excuse me; excuse me he says blowing by other college students

Watch it moron another kid said tripping him down the stairs.

Melvin stumbles down 2 flights of stair and crashes into the wall …he gets up and shrugs it off

All the other kids start laughing

Melvin proceed to his usual lounging area but the other kids followed

Can I help you he said turning around?

Yea you can help me why are such a dork the kid that tripped him down the steps said

Idont know why are you such a jerk Melvin said with a sarcastic tone

Naturally the other kid took offence to that grabbing him by the collar

What did you say to me?

I’m not going to repeat my self Melvin said squirming around trying to get lose

Just as he said that Melvin “friends” looked and walked away

Why are you just standing there help me get lose he said

For the 1^st time in his life he realized that this isn’t the 1^st time this has happened

Just then he felt a sharp pain him his nose which turned bright red…he blacked out

My college essay draft

I rebound the ball 12 seconds on the clock and where down by one I dribble up the court past half court 8.7 seconds left. I check the floor personal and I quickly realize that imp the only person with the confidence to take the shot. At this point taking the ball to the basket and risking a charge was not an option so I called for the pick. The big man comes out 5.1 seconds left, I set like I’m going to take the pick but quickly crossover to my left the opposite direction the pick is coming from.3.8 seconds left  I dribble to about 18 feet and pull up the shot is challenged but I know it doesn’t matter this is my time . The ball sails through the air and I’m knocked to the floor the buzzer goes off and the ball splashed through the net.

I’m doing not have the best grades but I have a lot of confidence and persevere.  This makes me able to communicate better with other peers. I consider myself a very athletic person which makes me a pretty good basketball player. Although I’ve only play basketball for my school once, I believe that I would make a good addition to your athletic program. I believe that my best qualities is my are my quick thinking and confidence which allows me to complete assignments in quick and effective manner. My drive and competitiveness to be the best that I can be will allow me to learn things that do not particular strike my interest.

I am live in a private house of three my brother, mom and I. which has a lot of pressure on me to set an example which I try my best doing. I don’t a lot around the house watching my brother, cooking my food, washing clothes, home work all while finding some time to spend with friends. Being the oldest helps me guide my brother when my mom is at work and she currently has enrolled at Mercy College to get her master’s degree in ethics. This has inspired me to do my best this year because if she is the only one helping me with the money for college the least I can do is try to make it easier on her. She has had a big impact on me thus far.

Along with school I am a big sports buff I am often teased about how serious I take basketball. I take it very serious and I think I have a shot at playing in college a well see what happens after that. But I bring the same drive and competitiveness I do to the court toward the class room. I prefer something in the English or history department because math and sciences have not struck my interest, because I do not excel in thoughts subjects. I have given full attention to school this year realizing if I want to get in a good college I have to do my very best this year so it’s not so much of a burden on my mother anymore than it is. Although we get the occasional help from my father and no assistance what so ever from my brothers (he’s seven) father it’s never enough. My mother recently obtained a job in the law department for the board of education, after 3 years ago being laid off by Pfizer during her time of unemployment she applied for unemployment and sent out job hundreds of job applications and went on countless job interviews. All while being there for use physically, and mentally. She has inspired me so much over the years and even though I give her a hard time occasionally I love her and look up to her for guidance. it’s been a long ride but getting into a good college and applying for scholar ships will enable me to take some stress off her while being successful in school.

6-word memoir: you provide fuel to my fire.

6 sentence fiction: Martha and Kevin where expecting their baby girl in late November. When they brought these cute little pink shoes with pink ribbons, and sparkles with a little hello kitty doll on the side. But when the sonograph came back it showed that their darling little baby was actually a boy. They couldn’t believe there luck up until that appointment they where sure that it was a girl but it showed other wise. As Kevin through about the dilemma he tripped over an old cello as he opened hte garage , and had an idea, he could still make money off of the shoes he paid 30 $ for. As he and Martha discussed this idea she doubled over in pain and let out a sudden shriek.

Mediator

            Xavier is a pretty chill guy who’s easy to talk to. He is sometimes a little to generous with people to the point where he neglects his work and free time. He mostly chills with his good friend Isaac. Isaac has the same problem, but he sometimes takes it to the extreme. Xavier friends, Ashley, Isaac Kyle, Paul and Isaiah where a pretty solid group. But like every group they all have the occasional problems. Isaac and Kyle always been close friends in the pas, but when a student Ashley came to town they slowly spilt apart. To Isaac it seemed like Kyle was throwing away their friendship of nothing, but to Kyle he couldn’t understand what the big deal was. Xavier being a good friend stepped in to mediate the problem 9 while neglecting his own homework due the next 6 hours). He told Kyle that the knows that that was not the right thing to do. You don’t cuff other guys’ girls not unless you want a problem. He also told Kyle that he understands why he’s upset but no girl is worth losing a friend over even if Kyle made the wrong choice. “These plenty of other fish in the sea don’t hold a grudge over something like this” they both agreed to let it go and shake hands the next day on it. Now it was 3 am and Kyle could finish his essay. The irony behind this was the relationship between Kyle and Ashley only lasted approximately 2 and ½ weeks. On another occasion Isaac again having problems with yet another “ friend” Paul this wasn’t as severe as the other occasion but just more immature. This was over name calling and just down right disrespect on Paul’s part. It was getting to the point where Isaac was ready to swing the next time he Paul said something out of place to him. Xavier again steps in but this time it was more one sided criticism of Paul than Isaac . Paul realized that what he was doing was wrong and apologized and they went about their business. ( Due to all the fighting going on Xavier forgot his math exam was the next day !)Other times Xavier helps people with homework he shouldn’t which, he feels that at times he is  to good of a listener and mediator with other peoples problems. These problems normally occur during work , midterms ,night, and while he’s doing home work. He stays up later into the night doing work and studying which causes him not to be alert and do well on test for lack of sleep. But he has come to learn that it’s ok to be a good friend and help out once in while but don’t let it get in the way of his work.

( even though they didnt go out he had strong feelings for each other.it was getting to the point where they didnt talk to each other and it was kind of seperating the group. xavier finally had to step in (where as paul and isaiah stayed out of it) and solve the problem for them. other times xavier helps people that really dont deserve it, he feels that sometimes he is to good of a listner which causes him to neglect his own problems and work. another time paul and issac where haveing difficulty communicating, name calling , talking behind each others back . which again xavier stepped in trying to help them slove each others diffrences by excepting each other faults and deal with it.these problems offten occur when there a big test, midterms, night when he should be getting sleep , homework time. which means staying up late when he should be doing homework , studying, or just sleeping. this is extremely stressful and has lead him to fail test. xavier is beinging to learn that its ok to help and be a good freind but dont let it take away from whats really inportant. hes a great freind but he also needs to learn that sometimes hes got to let them solve problems on their own.
